Travel Assistance Expanded to Include a Traveling Companion and Deadline for Enrollment in Travel and Lodging Extended
The 9-11 Healing and Remembrance Program has officially extended the enrollment deadline for the travel and lodging assistance until all available slots are filled. Assistance is also now being provided to one eligible family member and one traveling companion *. Assistance is now being provided to one eligible family member and one traveling companion *. Both travelers must be immediate family members (* spouse, domestic partner, parent, sibling or child) of a person who died in the 9-11 attacks and must meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrate financial need; and
- Live at least 240 miles from New York City, Shanksville, PA, Arlington, VA; or
- Demonstrate a travel related disability

The speakers include WTC survivors, 9-11 family organizations and members of the medical and mental health community. They worked to help the country recover from the events of 9-11. Volunteering on 9-11-11 is a great way to honor those lost
The 9-11 Healing and Remembrance Program encourages you to spend the anniversary of 9-11 in the company of others. A great way to be with others, honor those lost and give back to the community is through volunteering. There are many opportunities available in your local community. A good place to start your search for volunteer opportunities is by visiting 9-11 Day of Service (http://911dayofservice.org/). They have thousands of volunteer opportunity listings including many that are specifically related to 9-11. Their mission “is to honor the victims of 9-11 and those that rose to service in response to the attacks by encouraging all Americans and others throughout the world to pledge to voluntarily perform at least one good deed, or another service activity on 9/11 each year.” We encourage you to do the same.

This anniversary may be a difficult time for those who have suffered losses and for our community as a whole. It is our goal to assist in making the remembrance process a bit easier. We aim to foster healing through supports that family members and other members of the 9-11 community have indicated might be most helpful.
